So, this past weekend my father and I went out to the lake to go camping on one of the islands. We boated out there on my dad’s vintage Lonestar boat, and set up camp about 11ish. It was really hot but we had about a 15-20MPH wind that day, so not too bad…heat wise. After about an hour, a few people walked over on the submerged pathway (about 5ft deep). They were having a good time swimming and diving off about a 6ft ledge. All of a sudden, one of them dives face first off the ledge and is knocked unconscious. One of the others jumped in and pulled him out….but he wasn’t breathing! They began CPR while I called for Rescue. They were able to resuscitate him, but he couldn’t feel from the waist down! It took the emergency crew 20 minutes to get to our location. The man had to be care flighted to Dallas. I have no way to know how he is fairing, but I hope he is ok.
So after about an hour of adrenaline…my dad and I settled back down in our hammocks and started to relax. No more then 30 minutes had passed when we heard cries for help. A woman who couldn’t swim had been washed off of the under water pathway and was being pushed to deeper water. My dad and I jumped up and ran to the boat with another boost of adrenaline! We raced to the frightened woman as she bobbed under the water and up again. She was doing her best to tread water, but she was tiring out and about to loose the fight. We pulled her aboard and hauled here back to safety where she thanked us profusely and we off again to our little island.
When my dad and I set out for a father’s day camping trip, neither of us knew what we would have in store for us. Other then the excitement I just told you about, it was a nice relaxing trip. I tried out some new gear, my ENO sleep system hammock. I will probably do a full review in not too long, but for now I can say, I really liked it!
