Survival Pants….We Will See…

I ordered a pair of Bear Grylls Craghopper survival pants about a month ago, and have put them to the test. I have to say, I really like the looks of these pants, and wearing them, I just get the urge to go run and jump around and do Bearsy things.  These pants are very comfortable and the stretch panels are awesome, however, there are some downsides to these pants. First, these are survival pants, yet if you get anything too hot around them, they melt. If you are around say, a campfire, embers that pop will melt right through them. The other issue I have is the quality of craftsmanship. These things feel like the cheapest pair of pants ever. The pockets feel like they could tear if you put anything remotely sharp in there (keys), and the hip zipper pocket’s zipper broke the first time I used it.

Bottom line

If you want a pair of comfortable, light-weight pants, or even just want to be like Bear….get these. If you want a pair of long-lasting “survival” pants….look elsewhere.

By the way, I guess they are closing out the line, because they have most of the line on sale for 50-70% off.

Bear’s new knife?

I have heard rumor that Bear Grylls has got a new sponsor….Gerber. It seems as though that he traded in his $600 Bayley knife for a $50 Gerber. As far as I can tell, he has started carrying the Prodigy. I like this knife and its big brother, the LMF II survival knife seen below.

Be Like Bear

So you wanna be like bear? Well, you can at least dress like him…now at 50% of the cost. Head over to his clothing site and check out the stuff they have on sale. They have “the pants”…you know the ones…with the big black reinforcements on the knees and butt. They also have the shirt styles he wears as well.

For shoes on the other hand, go check out www.merrell.com and look for the chameleon model of shoes. He has worn several different versions throughout  the series.

I have a pair of these shoes, and they are some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. They have really good support and really hug your foot.

As far as the knife, you had better be ready to dish out some dough. You can find it over at Bayley Knife.I am sure that these are just wonderful knives, but it is out of my price range.

The survival bracelets like the one both he and Les Stroud wear can be found just about anywhere online, including me. I made a post a while back about them. I have since made some changes to the way they are made. The ones pictured to the left just use a knot to connect and only use 2 strands of 550 paracord, while the new ones have a closure and 3 strands of paracord. If interested in one, just contact me and tell me what you want.

The watch is a Bremont watch. Again…not a cheap piece of art. The have been worn by people that climb Everest, and actors alike…such as Ewen McGregor.

While you may not be able to be Bear, you can certainly dress like him as long as you have bank like him. If you have any other additions to this list, feel free to let me know and I will add them.

Bear Gryll’s Knife

Yesterday I posted Les Stroud’s knife of choice…today…Bear grylls! This is a nice looking knife and they have several variations, but at $538 US, it is a far cry from the $40-50 Buck knife! I can’t give you my 2 cents because I don’t know about you, but I don’t have that kind of money laying around. Here’s the link to Bayley Knife where, if you have the money..you can purchase the knife.

P.S. If you DO have the extra money just laying around….I wouldn’t mind getting one of these as a gift to do a review on! ;)
