Long absence

I just wanted to apologize for the long absence, I have been extremely busy at work (65+ hours this week). I will hopefully get back on the band wagon in the next week.

I plan on going on a 3 day paddle tour the last week of April and will be posting some pics and videos from that trip.

S.O.S. Review

Well, our Science of Survival camp is over and here are some more videos and photos from the event. It had its ups and downs, but in the end, everyone had a great time.  Some of the stuff below includes dirt time, the solar stills, the 3 line “monkey bridge”, etc.

Bear’s new knife?

I have heard rumor that Bear Grylls has got a new sponsor….Gerber. It seems as though that he traded in his $600 Bayley knife for a $50 Gerber. As far as I can tell, he has started carrying the Prodigy. I like this knife and its big brother, the LMF II survival knife seen below.

Science of Survival Spring Break

Those of you in the Texoma area that need something for your kids to do over spring break, this might be an option for you. We will be offering a SOS class that lasts March 15-19th and covers all sorts of survival techniques, but in a unique way. We don’t just teach the techniques, we teach the science behind it. On top of all that, we also throw in a hearty dash of adventure and team building through the use of high ropes, low ropes, and canoeing. For more details and to register, follow this link.

Gearing Up

We had some set backs after the storms and high winds. When we checked out or camp, we found that our supply tent had been completely flattened under the weight of the snow and 25 mph + winds. That being said, we are gearing up for our last retreat. This weekend is our 2 day father/son retreat and we hope to see a decent group out.

Survival School Update

Due to weather, the Family retreat has been canceled. Pottsboro received 8-12 inches of snow that fell really fast, making it really miserable for anyone to attempt to go. Don’t forget the last weekend of the month…we have one more retreat.

I should be back to posting next week, but till then…I hope everyone has a happy Valentines Day!

Airsoft?

scar004tz4

I have tossing around the idea of hosting some airsoft games at our survival school, but I would like to gauge some interest. We have plenty of land, but I need to get a course approved, to do that, I need feedback. Please email me if you would like to see an airsoft course built here. We have a variety of terrain including open fields with tall

grass, lake front, and  cedar/oak forests. Do most people who play have their own gear, or do they rent? How much would you pay to play?

Change of Plans

Just wanted to let everyone know about a change of plans for our February events. The 3 day event over the 13-15 will be changed to a family retreat. Come spend Valentine’s day with the family in more of a camping trip with some teaching time, but with a focus on bonding.

The last weekend in February, we will host a Father-Son survival trip, that will still have plenty of bonding time, but will have more emphasis on survival techniques.
